      • Mooring & Anchoring TQ tool for Floating Offshore Wind  – Now Live!

A new online Mooring & Anchoring Technology Qualification (TQ) Tool which has been developed to assist stakeholders, including technology developers, to navigate the TQ landscape is now live.

It was developed by Inverness based TTI Marine Renewables Ltd in collaboration with the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult’s Floating Offshore Wind Centre of Excellence as part of the Mooring and Anchoring Systems - Technology Development and Qualification Programme.

The tool is a systematic qualification process which can be used to gather evidence on M&A technology readiness and maturity and inform TQ activities. This tool will help technology developers to streamline their TQ process.

The TQ tool is available at https://www.fowmoortq.com/ and can be used alongside the Technology Qualification (TQ) Framework Guidance Notes.

In order to facilitate the planning and execution of TQ activities, a Technology Quality Register (TQR) spreadsheet template is available to download from the website. The spreadsheet and website feature details of a generic mooring connector example in order to guide the user through the TQ process. Sheets are provided for each of the five TQ stages; Definition of requirements, Assessment of technology maturity, TQ plan development (and execution) and Review of TQ activities. Progress of the TQ activities can be tracked with respect to target dates and mapped back to the prescribed requirements of the TQ programme.

“The tool is the culmination of TQ support we have been providing to ORE Catapult, which has included valuable feedback from the Floating Offshore Wind Centre of Excellence “Industry Focus Group” and classification societies. With a background in moorings system design, testing and qualification TTI Marine Renewables tested the TQ tool against several distinct mooring component case studies” Ben Yeats, Director,  TTI Marine Renewables.

“TTI Marine Renewables’ tool provides an excellent resource for the floating wind mooring supply chain and the embodied framework will guide companies on their technology qualification journey. The input and appreciation from classification societies is indicative of the tool’s value to the industry. The Floating Offshore Wind Centre of Excellence look forward to using the tool and applying

the framework in forthcoming technology qualification activities.” added Jack Paterson, Team Lead for Floating Offshore Wind, at of ORE Catapult.

ORE Catapult’s Floating Offshore Wind Centre of Excellence is now accepting applications for its Mooring and Anchoring Systems Strategic Programme.
