TTI Testing has a range of options available for abrasion testing whether its for synthetic fibres or ropes, wire ropes, electrical and umbilical cables or other components.

Fibre friction tests such as the Yarn-on-Yarn test or for smaller diameter ropes and cords the external abrasion test machines are available.

For larger tests over a fixed bends/sheaves or fairleads or more complicated sets ups these can also be accommodated.

Most of our larger horizontal machines, utilising their modular fames can accommodate multiple set up options.

Test bed lengths depending on machines can be up to 15 metres and can be combined with additional sub-assemblies to again provide further flexibility.

Yarn-on-Yarn Abrasion Tester

Yarn-on-Yarn abrasion testing is fundamental to understanding the major wear mechanism in fibres and synthetic ropes. This test is used to help develop better yarn and rope finishes and it is an important quality check on supplied yarn.

Testing is carried out in accordance with current ASTM (D6611-16) and Cordage Institute (CI 1503-19) Standards. Bespoke test programmes can also be accommodated.

External Abrasion Tester

External yarn abrasion testing helps determine the performance of a rope when rubbing on abrasive surfaces. It is an inexpensive way of selecting the best material for braided rope jackets.
