Fibre Characteristics
The following table lists the properties of main fibres used in rope manufacturing. Note that these are typical values and actual values may vary depending on the particular fibre used.
The following units / terminology are used commonly used in the general fibre and fibre rope industry.
Tex - The weight in grammes per 1,000 metres of fibre
Decitex [dtex] - The mass in grammes per 10,000 metres of fibre
Denier - The weight in grammes per 9,000 metres of fibre 1 denier = 0.11 tex = 1.1 dtex
gpd - Grammes per denier - imperial unit of measurement of tenacity or modulus 1 gpd = 0.08826 N/tex
N/tex - Newton per tex
