Floating Offshore Wind
TTI and TTI Marine Renewables (TTI-MR) Ltd, was a long established back ground in the development and design of moorings systems for FOWT.
Working with many of the pioneers of this technology, our team of naval architects, engineers and material specialists have brought decades of experience in the design, development, testing and qualification of mooring systems to this important sector.
Since the early concept stage, TTI and TTI Marine Renewables have championed the use of synthetic moorings as a key enabling technology.
We possess industry-leading expertise in the design of synthetic-based systems, underpinned by a deep understanding of rope mechanics to accurately model complex behaviours. This capability is strengthened by access to rope test data from our sister company, TTI Testing Ltd, which brings forensic-level insight into rope performance.
By combining our knowledge of rope mechanics with expertise in global system behaviour, we provide comprehensive support across the full lifecycle of mooring systems — from installation and through-life intervention to retirement.
At TTI and TTI Marine Renewables Ltd, we’ve spent years tackling the complex challenge of mooring system design. Through our experience, it's become clear that conventional, incremental design approaches often fall short—missing optimal solutions due to the vast and complex nature of the design space. In the field of floating offshore wind turbines (FOWTs), where both technical and commercial demands are extremely stringent, achieving highly optimised solutions is essential.
To address this, we have developed and refined a multi-objective optimisation (MOO) tool that automates and streamlines the mooring design process. This powerful tool interfaces directly with leading mooring analysis software, OrcaFlex, enabling full automation of model setup, simulation execution, and result extraction.
Built entirely in-house over the past five years, our MOO tool has been successfully deployed on a range of marine renewable energy and FOWT projects. It allows us to efficiently explore vast parameter spaces, delivering high-performance mooring designs that meet rigorous performance and cost criteria.
Our optimisation tool supports all stages of project development—from concept design and front-end engineering to detailed design—and is applicable to both single unit and array-scale systems. – to learn more download our White Paper now.
