Dr. Alan Ractliffe is a founding director of TTI. He is a former academic, with almost 20 years experience in the Department of Naval Architecture at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, one of the largest of its kind in Europe.

His early specialisation in structural strength behaviour broadened into a wider range of interests in computer modelling of dynamic problems in the marine environment, including cable dynamics, pipe-laying, towing, and motions and forces on floating bodies. His experiences in these varied fields involved the application of basic principals and exploitation of research, leading to state-of-the-art software.

Dr. Ractliffe is the principal developer of TTI's Optimoor mooring analysis computer program. He has also conducted dynamic analyses of riser protection nets and towing systems.
